To encourage musicians and communities across West Virginia to share Blues Music and History to Enrich their lives and our state.

Blues in the Schools

One of the ways that we fulfill our mission is through our Blues in the Schools Program; an opportunity for students of all ages to engage in multidisciplinary, wholelanguage learning using the study of music, math, language arts, history, anthropology, and sociology in a hands-on approach celebrating creative self-expression. By bringing the blues genre into the classroom, students are exposed to these traditional subjects, while breaking down racial barriers and opening dialogue about cultural diversity.

Our Society has had great success in presenting this program to various schools over the years including:

  • Capitol High School

  • Dunbar Intermediate School

  • Dunbar Middle School

  • Mary C Snow Elementary School

  • Piedmont Elementary School

  • Trap Middle School

What Else Does the Charleston West Virginia Blues Society Do?

  • Collaborate with local venues to book blues musicians

  • Promote upcoming blues events through our website and social media

  • Conduct research and present the fascinating history of West Virginia’s African American musicians
