What Are the Blues?

You hear tantalizing bits of blues on TV commercials and in American popular music. Created by African Americans in the early 20th century to chase away their hard times, the blues use simple, powerful chords, toetapping rhythms, and words that tell a personal story with feeling. Blues can be happy, sad, and funny. You can dance to it. Blues men and women say that blues is simply the truth; it’s life.

Why Should I Join the Charleston West Virginia Blues Society?

How Can I Help?

• Serve on a committee

How Do I Pay My Blues Dues?

• Student: $15

• Individual/Musician: $25

• Family (up to 4): $75

• Band/Small Business: $100

• Silver Corporate Sponsorship: $250

• Gold Corporate Sponsorship: $500

• Platinum Corporate Sponsorship: $1000
